Heh [Feb. 2nd, 2009|01:05 pm]
In my opinion, any healthy relationship, or even long-standing unhealthy ones, need reaffirmations of love.

I just had one.
She had to write a paper for school, as students so often do, and her computer isn't hooked to the printer, so she emailed it to me to print last night. I set it to task last night as we headed to slumber land, and then spent the morning reading and not at the computer.

Well, I sit down and here's ol' Word waving me a hello with her school paper. I go ahead and decide to read it, our of curiosity, boredom, interest, who knows, and within it I see her soul, and it reminds me, 'Yep, there's reasons why I love you, not just a pretty face, a cute smile or a mousish sneeze.'

Yeah, I thought I'd make this a private entry where only she could read it and squeal at my sappiness, but then I decided that I wanted to share that with all of you (even though I realize now that Valentine's Day is right around the corner, this really has nothing to do with that, or any, Hallmark Holiday. Love is something to share daily, and not to spread commercialism).

Have a blessed day folks.
Later.

Humans tend to be the ones in the middle. Not as sexy as the Night Elves; not as stumpy as the dwarves or gnomes. As a human, you pretty much go with the flow of things.

As a paladin, you like to see that everyone is safe - including yourself. Still an important part of any group, if you get overshadowed, you can always refuse to give them your blessing.

Time is running out for one of ancient Native
America's most untouched and unusual sacred places. On June 14,
Spruce Hill Works, a vast 2,000-year-old hilltop earthworks enclosure in
Ohio (USA), goes on the auction block. A local coalition - including
the Ross County Park District and two nonprofits, Arc of Appalachia
Preserve System and Wilderness East - is trying to raise the $600,000
needed to save the 238-acre sacred site.
At the moment, the coalition had come up with
only $175,000. "We need a miracle," said Nancy Stranahan, co-director of
the 2,500-acre Arc of Appalachia Preserve System. "If these groups
don't succeed, Spruce Hill Works will likely be purchased by a timber
company or a developer," said Marti Chaatsmith, Comanche/Choctaw
and program coordinator of the Newark Earthworks Center, an Ohio
State University program that promotes the study and protection of
mounds, in particular a major complex in Newark. "Many earthworks
have been plowed under or built on, so this one's near-pristine
condition is important, especially to Native people. It's very hard
to find ancient sacred places that haven't been tampered with
or destroyed."
All of these artificial hills and earthen-walled
enclosures were constructed by indigenous people who arrived in the
area in about 2,000 years ago and embarked upon a 500-year building
campaign that left what appears to be a coordinated system of
thousands of earthworks stretching from the Great Lakes to the Gulf
of Mexico. Some are massive, with several related installations,
each of which encompasses scores of acres. The remains of ceremonial
passageways, outlying shrines and habitations cover even more
acreage, said archaeologists. As is the case with Spruce Hill
Works, surviving mounds are at risk. Development continues apace in
Ohio, and if a sacred site does not lie on federal land, national
preservation laws do not apply. Ohio's state preservation laws do not
offer meaningful protection, according to Chaatsmith.

[music |Mental Elvis - Blue Christmas]

I love Christmas time.

I don't care for presents (though I love to recieve that thoughtful gift, I fight against the packrat mentality that is my family), but I love the season.

It breeds the warm-fuzzy cells in me for the next year, so I'm on overdrive for that month or so, from a week or so before thanksgiving through very early January. Though unfortunately for that special someone, because of all that, I don't always go all out for Valentines, with only just over a month to gain the expected momentum for that holiday.

I want a warm blanket and a coffee (or even a hot chocolate, heavens forbid) in front of a movie.
I want a fast sled ride ending in a tumble through the snow and a snowball fight.
I want to walk through the woods, watching a heavy snow land on the tree limbs and semi-frozen creeks.
I want to walk down the streets, homemade scarves (and sweaters?) donned, singing carols as we go. "Will sing for coffee and cakes" :P .
And regardless of what the ex would say, I really do enjoy wondering aimlessly through the shopping centers during the season, just don't expect me to buy alot. I like to surprise.

Oh my, yippee.
Just asked the favored recipient, and I get to add a new one:
I want to sit on the beach with a bonfire, cookies and egg nog (or coffee or hot chocolate again...), watching the snow fall over the endless ocean.

I want my love, and I want her badly. I need my warm-fuzzy.

To explain the reason for all that:

I went to "The Beach", a water park here in Cincinnati today. They supe themselves up into a veritable winter wonderland after the water slides close for the year. My son, mother and my younger brother.
We got there, and I tried to get my son onto the water slide turned sled ride (filled the pool with sand and put on extension ending in a pile of hay bales. We got our sled and headed up the steps, when he admitted to being too scared to go on the slide (hey, he's not even 5 yet), none of my assurances "Daddy'll be right there. You'll be on my lap" or explanations would help. And then he persisted to being carried back down the stairs.
There's me, in bulky sweater & coat, carrying my son in one arm, sled in the other, trying not to fall down the stairs myself.

So we head to the little scrambler ride they had set up. Not just the doodle-art style one, the one where you spin yourself, as you circle the machine. Bevin and I had the thing WORKIN, I tell ya. Mom had to beg us to stop a couple times, and we'd ease back into a fast spin. We went once more after that, to let mom sit out and videotape us boys. Trystan loved it, and only giggle-cried for us to stop once. We were dizzy, I tell you what.

Off to the main reason for this outing: Dinner with Santa. They'd thrown plywood up around a shelter and served salad, lasagna, mac & cheese and breadsticks. Cookies for desert.
Trystan got one last Santa sitting in the line for food, and he asked for his Leapster LMax (which Santa had already dropped off here actually. Way to go Santa ;) ), we got our food, the whole dinner was kind of a mad house, but he had fun, and that was the whole reason we went.

Then we went to the lazy river turned paddle boat canal, waiting insanely long in line. Bevin and I paddled, while mom held Trystan in the back. I took some good pictures as we paddled down the way.

Then finally off to the petting zoo. Greeting us were some uber soft bunnehs, sheep, llamas, goats, cows and even reindeer.

Trystan and I left the animal house and go to sit on a bench up the hill to wait for Bevin and mom. He asked me kinda soberly, "Daddy, I wanna say hi to Ashley, cause you're gonna live with her soon".

There's the truth of it, folks.

I'd been excited enough for him and my family all night, but I had been terribly lonely and wishing she was there to share the evening with us. But Trystan finally got me, being a child of a magic user, he's got to have some powers and effects of hi sown. He's really good at reading people, and he's a month from being 5 years old. I wonder if he's got ESP or other reading powers. So I dialed her cell and handed him the phone while I regained my head before I broke down.

After that, we're standing outside Santa's shack, an extra tent with more reindeer, and the clearest spot for listening to the christmas music in the entire park. I think my heart ended up somewhere in my boots around then, and I watched Trystan run in circles around the patio, mumble-humming the christmas tunes to myself still waiting for mom and Bevin to check out all the animals.

Because of my mood, I've had Elvis stuck in my head periodicalyl for weeks now.
I'll have a blue christmas, without you

And even though I have her on my headset right now, and she's even watching my webcam as I type this insanely long and introspective journal ("Hi honey, yes this is then") I miss her terribly. I really wish I could just have the family I've always wanted, but I'm pleasantly stuck with a split one, at least for now.

Mother help me find a way to merge my past and my future

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

I make no guarantees about quality or type (or time that it takes to get to you), but I will assure that I will give it good effort and that the art will be individual to you. The only catch, of course; as with most memes, if you sign up, you have to put this in your own journal as well.

So, I think I've got an ear infection now on top of everything, but my Dr. appointment went well and the pin is out of my finger (almost passed out after the doc pulled it though. Sadistic bastard made me sniff smelling salts to keep me awake and I almost puked from that).
I'm tempted to ask what else September will bring, but I'm afraid of the answers.

You scored as Dragon. Dragon: Now talk about a legend. These magnificent creatures are of many species. Some can be as large as the Earth itself, while others are as small as a mouse. One image that comes to everyone's mind is the large, fire breathing Dragons that loathed humans and loved to sleep on massive piles of gold. Not all dragons have a bad reputation. Most dragons are very wise, caring, and protective. It would make a person very lucky indeed to meet a dragon. Especially if they walked away untouched. I admire your wisdom, for you are the Ancient Dragon.

Bad day... [Aug. 26th, 2006|01:00 am]
Thursday, August 25th, 2006.

I'm at work, enjoying a relatively easy day spending alot of time in the truck driving about town.
We had to go to Shemin's to pick up a handful of plants to replace at a client's house. When we get to said house, I started moving around the Viburnums (read: larger shrub) and find out the project manager had us pick up the wrong kind, so I had to put them back onto the truck.
Moment of doom.

The switch to raise.lower the tail gate is on the side of the truck. Now i've operated this type of liftgate numerous times, but today, my right, middle, finger decided to get in the way, positioning itself in between the truck bed and the supports for the cable system that rasises/lowers the gate.

It got crushed. tore all the soft parts of my finger, and quite a bit of the bone as well got smooshed too.

Hospital time... workers comp paperwork... my very first broken bone, at 27 years old... IVs and a tetenus shot... Antibiotics burning inside my veins... throbbing hand from the anesthetic shots... drug & shock induced nap time... surgery (complacency thanks go out to my love, you're a wonderful distraction, darling)... drug tests... over 9 hours in the hospital...

And now I'm typing one-handed, and left-handed to boot until I rid myself of this cast and have a (hopefully) working finger again. Terribly hopeful the doc won't have to amputate it after all if infection sets in or what not.

My doctor's appt is on the 5th, so expect further news by then, if not sooner.

And pray with me that my Vicodin prescrip. works well enough.

It's a little depressing, when one's cohorts and occupational cousins get angry with you and you don't see it until it's too late.

The draegon is upset. I've spent hours and hours in pain over a single situation:

Fellow hunters of mine had gotten extremely irked over some actions I was involved with, which greatly disturbed their home, to the point when one of them felt the absolute necessity to strike out at me and remove me from the current equation, which worked effectively by the way, I ended up leaving the equation with little dispute at the time, though very soon afterwords I was a mix of pain and anger and have spent most of my time since then venting and/or ranting to any I have come across: my faerie, my family, my friends, and those who have randomly brought up similar situations in casual conversation.

The pain is subsiding, but still lingers. Remedies are being applied and beginning to work but now I must start anew in counting the days, hopefully for this to never happen again.

The first step of the thousand mile journey [Jul. 4th, 2006|06:58 pm]
Indeed my friends, I am on LiveJournal.

There's an earthen fairy out there who has captured my heart, nay... she
hasn't. Seems we had captured each other long before we'd known each other.

Sounds like soul mates doesn't it?
We think so too.

My basic rundown for those of you who care enough to read my early blogs and entries, months and years after I initially created this livejournal.

I was married.
Ok, technically, according to Ohio I still am, but only because the process takes so long when you try and stay civil for children's sake.
Yes, I am a father and I love my son dearly.

Back to my lovely Fae
This winged one was born o the twilight, the night which calls to me too often when I must work early in the morning.
She is born of the garden, the earth in which I toil each day creating the beauty I know the earth capable of.

And here, I give myself to be reborn. A new man free from conceptions of normalcy and conformity.
